Joey's Only Seafood Restaurants Committed to Consumer Choice

Calgary, AB (November 7, 2003) — Recent reports concerning farmed salmon have raised awareness about aquaculture practices. Salmon, a consumer favorite, is the third most popular seafood item eaten in North America. Both wild and farmed salmon are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to reduce the incidence of heart disease and may help to protect against Alzheimer Disease.

Salmon and other seafood purchased by Joey's Only is routinely tested by independent and government laboratories to ensure that all food safety standards are met. Joey's Only maintains a seafood purchasing policy that is in accordance with the standards set by the Canadian Food Inspection agency.

"While farmed salmon makes up less than 2% of our menu, it would be a real loss to society if consumers stopped buying before all the facts are in. We support all efforts to ensure the sustainability and safety of the aqua culture industry and the right of individuals or groups to voice their opinions. We do wish the protest groups would find a way to get their message across without having to attack innocent businessmen as a way to get media attention.
